Manor Road Garage opened for business in 1934. In the 1930s there were many garages built with an art deco influence and many have been lost for ever. Manor Road Garage was a working garage until the owner died in the early 1970’s and for 40 years it lay disused. In 2007 English Heritage gave the building and its surviving 1950’s Avery Hardoll petrol pumps Grade 2 listed building status. The facade and petrol pumps were restored and the rest of the site developed into private apartments. A nice image montage here from Norman Atkinson:
