Nick Boorman’s early 65 restoration now nears completion, but these two photos show the extra strengthening members connecting the rear with the main floorpan very well.
Ian Williams notes: remember that with the 65 the upper part of the body, above the floor pan, is simply aesthetic dressing. With a Nippy being all steel the panels and skin add more to the overall strength of the structure.
Perhaps they streamlined production to reduce costs so that box and strip were dispensed with if not really vital for the steel body. Let us know if any steel car shows signs of such support members.
